Role Description
The Head of Science is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Dubai, responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, quality, and development of the Science Department.
This role includes leading and supporting science teachers, coordinating curriculum planning across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and ensuring alignment with school and external standards.
The Head of Science will monitor teaching and learning through lesson observations, work scrutiny, and data analysis, using evidence to drive improvement in student outcomes.
Daily responsibilities include organizing department meetings, mentoring staff, supporting classroom practice, and coordinating assessments, interventions, and enrichment activities such as clubs, competitions, and science events.
The role also involves collaborating with senior leadership, contributing to whole-school initiatives, communicating with families and external partners, and promoting a culture of safety, inclusion, and high expectations in all science learning spaces.
Qualifications
- Strong background in science education, including subject knowledge in Physics and broader science disciplines, with the ability to model high-quality teaching.
- Demonstrated expertise in Teaching and Education, including classroom management, differentiation, assessment for learning, and supporting diverse learners.
- Experience in Curriculum Development and leadership of science programs, including designing coherent schemes of work and aligning them with relevant standards and examinations.
- Proven ability to engage in and apply Research to inform instructional practice, department improvement planning, and the evaluation of new initiatives.
- Recognized teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor’s degree in Science or Education plus teaching certification) and substantial experience in middle or senior leadership within a school setting.
- Strong communication, organizational, and people-management skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop colleagues in a collaborative way.
- Experience in an international or bilingual school context is an advantage, as is familiarity with major international curricula and examination frameworks.
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusive education, and ongoing professional learning, with readiness to contribute to the wider life of the school.
