Forward Deployed Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Participate in planning, standups, and delivery with client and Sia engineers.
• Translate client needs into scoped deliverables, acceptance criteria, and measurable outcomes.
• Design, develop, and deploy production Python backend services, APIs, connectors, and integrations.
• Address platform gaps and align architectural changes and dependencies with relevant owners.
• Build RAG pipelines, tool-calling agents, and LLM workflows using approved gateways and data sources, with evaluation and safeguards.
• Balance use-case delivery and platform improvements with maintainability, security, reliability, and timelines.
• Use code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, logging, and monitoring; track quality, latency, and cost.
• Communicate progress, trade-offs, blockers, and risks; escalate scope changes and dependencies early.
• Document decisions and operating procedures and transfer knowledge to the client team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Three to six years of software development experience with a strong focus on production Python backend development.
• Strong Python skills and experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or a comparable framework; API design and integrations.
• Ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases, troubleshoot issues, and contribute production-quality code.
• Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL; a cloud platform such as AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Practical experience with RAG, LLM applications, or tool-calling workflows, including retrieval, evaluation, and AI safety.
• Comfort working in an embedded client team, clarifying ambiguous requirements, and owning deliverables.
• Experience with governed enterprise environments, approved services, data access controls, and security reviews.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred experience

• Agent orchestration frameworks, vector search tools, enterprise GenAI platforms, Kubernetes, or NoSQL databases are good to have.
• Spark, Databricks, consulting or client-facing delivery, and regulated-domain experience are good to have.
