Responsible for consistent food quality, guest and employee satisfaction, operating budgets, training, sanitation, and food standards.
Education and experience
- High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of related culinary, food and beverage, or professional experience; alternatively, a related two-year degree plus 2 years of related experience.
- Relevant degree fields include Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Team leadership and operations
- Supervise employees and food-preparation workers, manage daily operations, lead shifts, and maintain productivity.
- Build cooperative team relationships, communicate expectations, address concerns, and model appropriate workplace behavior.
- Train staff on menu items, ingredients, preparation, safety, and service; review staffing and assist with hiring.
Culinary standards and service
- Create and prepare food offerings, maintain product quality and presentation, and prepare foods for regular service or special functions.
- Maintain food handling, temperature, storage, purchasing, receiving, portion, and waste-control standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, food and beverage policies, procedures, and sanitation standards.
- Coach employees to address guest needs and improve service quality and satisfaction.
Goals and administration
- Develop and pursue performance, budget, and team goals; purchase appropriate supplies and manage inventory within budget.
- Complete employee documentation and communicate relevant information and issues to supervisors, coworkers, and Human Resources.
- Analyze information, solve problems, and attend relevant meetings.
