The Engineering Supervisor manages an engineering team, supports its growth, and guides technical and product decisions.
The role includes project delivery, hiring, performance management, process improvement, and participation in the GitLab.com incident-management on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop engineers; coach on technical contributions and product architecture.
- Plan epics, run agile project processes, and stay engaged with engineering practices through one-to-ones, code reviews, and non-critical work.
- Recruit globally distributed talent, conduct managerial interviews, and train the team in technical interviewing.
- Promote psychological safety, improve processes, hold regular one-to-ones, and provide clear performance feedback.
- Foster technical decision-making and make final decisions when needed; draft quarterly OKRs and engineering KPIs.
- Improve product quality, security, and performance.
- Join incident-management on-call rotation and work with reliability engineers and developers to help meet GitLab.com availability goals.
Role capabilities
