The role

Lead a small team building the shared AI platform, infrastructure, and tooling used across NEOGOV public-sector SaaS products.

Own delivery of GenAI, AI agents, RAG, and intelligent automation into products used by governments and public agencies.

Partner with Product, Data, Infrastructure, and Security to ship securely, compliantly, and at scale.

What you will do

  • Hire, coach, and grow a small team of AI/ML and platform engineers.
  • Turn AI strategy into a prioritized roadmap and deliver it.
  • Build reusable GenAI services, agents and orchestration, multi-agent A2A, MCP integrations, RAG, semantic search, tool calling, and workflow automation.
  • Define shared patterns, golden paths, and frameworks for other teams.
  • Modernize microservices, event-driven and API-first systems, IaC, and CI/CD across .NET, Python, and cloud-native environments.
  • Own evaluations, guardrails, tracing, hallucination and PII protection, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Contribute hands-on through design reviews, prototyping, and unblocking the team.

Must-haves

  • Six to eight years of engineering experience, including one to two years leading as a manager or tech lead; strong senior or staff engineers stepping into management are also considered.
  • Experience shipping shared or platform services used by other engineers.
  • Hands-on GenAI or LLM, RAG, vector database, and semantic search experience; familiarity with agents, A2A, MCP, and tool calling or eagerness to develop expertise quickly.
  • Strong .NET and Python skills for APIs, backend, and AI services.
  • Foundations in distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, and API-first design.
  • Infrastructure as code, containers, CI/CD, and cloud-native SaaS experience.
  • Working knowledge of AI governance and safety practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership across engineering, product, data, and security.

Nice to have

  • Experience building AI platforms, internal AI tooling, or an AI Center of Excellence.
  • Experience with agents, A2A, MCP servers, tool registries, agent memory, and observability.
  • .NET modernization and Python AI services experience.
  • Delivery experience in regulated or public-sector environments.
  • Familiarity with evaluation and monitoring tools such as Langfuse, LangSmith, MLflow, or Phoenix, and data platforms such as OpenSearch, Snowflake, or Databricks.

Work location

  • The role is remote from anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Benefits

  • Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, and other benefits, paid time off, remote working opportunities, 401(k) matching, and 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • The employer describes an inclusive and diverse environment with supportive leadership and opportunities for career growth.
