Role overview
Lead the Engineering Team as a functional manager combining technical leadership, people management, and hands-on development.
Spend approximately 25–50% of the role developing internal products, private apps, and utilities.
Help identify intellectual property that can be developed into products for broader market use.
People and team operations
- Manage, mentor, and train backend engineers across Canada.
- Conduct one-to-ones, performance reviews, and career development planning.
- Foster collaboration across distributed teams and time zones.
- Lead hiring for senior and lead backend developers.
- Own resource planning and staffing across backend initiatives.
- Balance client work, support, new development, and product incubation.
Delivery and technical leadership
- Coordinate sprint planning, delivery timelines, daily standups, backlog grooming, and roadmap planning.
- Maintain backend engineering standards and code quality practices.
- Perform code reviews and approve technical solutions for complex integrations.
- Contribute to architecture design and coding for challenging technical problems.
- Establish escalation paths and manage critical production issues.
- Coordinate with frontend teams and stakeholders for seamless delivery.
Product and IP development
- Contribute to internal products including Teifi Bridge, Teifi Parts, and private utilities.
- Identify and validate intellectual property opportunities for market-ready products.
- Work with product leadership to transition incubated projects to dedicated Teifi Labs teams.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-stack development experience, including architectural leadership.
- Deep understanding of Shopify, Liquid, HTML, CSS3, and JavaScript ES6+.
- Experience with Shopify theme development and Shopify app development.
- Experience with Node.js, React, TypeScript, GraphQL, REST APIs, webhooks, Shopify Functions, and Metafields.
- Experience with Remix, Hydrogen, or React Server Components.
- Proficiency with Tailwind CSS, Flexbox, Grid, or SCSS.
- Experience with Node.js backend frameworks such as Express.js, Koa.js, or Nest.js.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong command of performance optimization, Core Web Vitals, and debugging.
- Strong English communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Compensation
- The pay range is CAD 130,000 to CAD 175,000 per year in Vancouver.
