Role overview

Full-time, mid-level role developing embedded software and firmware for electronic products.

Work spans firmware architecture, low-level programming, hardware integration, validation, and performance optimization.

Key responsibilities

  • Design embedded firmware and translate product and system requirements into technical specifications and designs.
  • Develop low-level firmware, hardware abstraction layers, peripheral drivers, and applications using C, C++, or other suitable languages.
  • Integrate firmware with hardware and troubleshoot system-level issues with hardware engineers.
  • Implement I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and applicable wireless interfaces; configure microcontroller peripherals.
  • Develop RTOS applications and use appropriate scheduling and synchronization techniques.
  • Debug and isolate faults with JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other tools.
  • Analyze performance, memory, processing needs, power consumption, response times, and resource use; optimize firmware.
  • Develop and run unit, integration, functional, system-level, and automated tests and validation procedures.
  • Support prototypes, engineering builds, product verification, production testing, and investigation of field issues and system failures.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and manage firmware versions, configurations, source code, and release branches.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain architecture specifications, interface definitions, test plans, and release notes.
  • Support firmware deployment, product updates, bootloaders, and over-the-air updates where applicable; evaluate tools and contribute to development improvements.

Required qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in embedded systems, firmware engineering, embedded software, or electronic product development.
  • Strong C and C++ programming; understanding of microcontrollers, embedded memory, interrupts, timers, peripherals, and real-time processing.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M, ARM Cortex-A, or other embedded processor architectures and knowledge of hardware communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, or similar systems.
  • Experience with embedded development environments, compilers, debuggers, flashing tools, and Git or another version-control system.
  • Ability to read electronic schematics, datasheets, reference designs, and technical specifications.
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, communication, and documentation skills; ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred and advantageous experience

  • Device-driver and hardware-abstraction-layer development is preferred.
  • Embedded Linux, bootloaders, device trees, or Linux device drivers are an advantage.
  • Automated testing, unit testing, integration testing, and hardware-in-the-loop testing experience is requested as familiarity.
  • Low-power design and resource-constrained systems are a plus; secure boot, firmware security, encryption, or embedded cybersecurity knowledge is advantageous.
  • Experience in IoT, consumer electronics, automotive, industrial automation, robotics, medical devices, or telecommunications is an advantage.

What the employer offers

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive employee benefits; salary amount and pay cadence are not stated.
  • Advanced embedded products, development platforms, test equipment, and opportunities across the product lifecycle.
  • Professional training, technical certification support, continuous development, and collaboration with experienced cross-functional teams.
  • Opportunities for firmware optimization and system-integration projects, performance recognition, and career advancement.
