The role
Own managed database service delivery for clients across on-premises and cloud platforms.
Combine accountability for SLAs, incidents, changes, and client communication with hands-on Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server administration.
Reports within the Service Delivery department to the Service Delivery Manager for Cloud and Systems.
Service delivery
- Deliver managed database services against agreed SLAs and KPIs and act as the technical client contact.
- Resolve database incidents, problems, and service requests, including root cause analysis.
- Plan and run changes and releases; coordinate vendor support cases and escalations.
- Maintain CMDB and service portal records and contribute to service reporting.
- Document procedures with solution architecture and share knowledge with junior staff.
Database administration
- Administer Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL; install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain systems.
- Monitor and tune database and query performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Administer SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances; support Oracle RAC and Grid Infrastructure.
- Maintain databases on OCI, Azure, on-premises infrastructure, and Exadata Cloud@Customer.
- Manage users, roles, access privileges, and storage capacity; validate backups and recovery and support high availability and disaster recovery.
- Assist with data migrations, upgrades, and database structure changes.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent.
- 4–6 years of hands-on enterprise database administration.
- Hands-on Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL administration, including installation, patching, and maintenance.
- Experience with SQL Server Always On, WSFC, and Failover Cluster Instances; working knowledge of Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure, and cluster services.
- Hands-on Azure and OCI database server experience, including OCI IAM policies and compute provisioning.
- Knowledge of RDBMS fundamentals, Oracle ATP, Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Linux clustering, and ITIL incident, problem, and change management.
- Clear client communicator with excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred experience and advantages
- Managed-services, MSP, or systems-integrator experience supporting external clients under SLAs is strongly preferred.
- ITIL Foundation is an advantage.
- Exadata or Exadata Cloud@Customer experience and Oracle, Microsoft, or OCI certifications are advantages.
