Specific sites and positions may have standard hours or 24/7 shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.

Infrastructure operations duties

  • Install, rack, stack, commission, replace, and upgrade servers, switches, storage equipment, and other IT hardware.
  • Diagnose hardware faults, perform break/fix work, replace failed components, and coordinate warranty replacements.
  • Install, patch, trace, and troubleshoot fibre and copper cabling and support structured cabling and cable management.
  • Perform remote-hands and smart-hands tasks for customers and engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot server, network, and infrastructure incidents; carry out basic configuration and operating-system installation where required.
  • Manage incidents and engineering tasks in ticketing systems, escalating issues and assisting with resolution within agreed SLAs.
  • Maintain hardware, cabling, inventory, spare-parts, and maintenance records; keep racks and data halls organised.
  • Coordinate with infrastructure, networking, operations, facilities, and vendor engineering teams.
  • Assist with equipment moves, adds, changes, decommissioning, and data-centre operations.
  • Follow site security, access-control, and health and safety procedures in live, high-availability environments.

Essential experience and capabilities

  • Previous hands-on experience in data centres, IT infrastructure, server support, network support, or a similar technical environment.
  • Practical computer/server hardware experience, strong fault diagnosis, and experience installing, repairing, or replacing server components.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with fibre and/or copper cabling and ability to rack, stack, and cable servers and network equipment.
  • Experience with Linux and/or Windows environments.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, solve problems methodically, communicate well, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Awareness of health and safety in technical environments.

Advantageous experience

  • Advantageous experience may include data-centre operations, rack and stack, remote hands, Linux, Windows Server, server hardware, and Dell, HPE, or Lenovo equipment.
  • Other useful experience includes Cisco, Arista, or Juniper networking, fibre-optic or copper cabling, TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, RAID/storage, diagnostics, ticketing, and asset management.
  • Additional exposure may include cross-connects, hot-aisle/cold-aisle environments, migrations, commissioning, decommissioning, and GPU or high-performance computing infrastructure.
  • Relevant data-centre experience is highly advantageous, but practical experience from other demanding IT infrastructure environments may also be considered.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications are advantageous; strong hands-on experience may also be considered.
  • Useful qualifications include a degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Computing, or Engineering.
  • Optional certifications may include CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Linux, Microsoft, or vendor-specific server and networking certifications.
  • Candidates without formal qualifications but with strong practical data-centre or infrastructure experience are encouraged to apply.

Opportunity details

  • The posting advertises £45,000–£60,000 per annum, depending on experience and position, and mentions potential shift allowance and overtime.
  • It describes permanent opportunities, London / Greater London locations, and possible additional benefits, with specific arrangements to be discussed during recruitment.
