Key responsibilities

• Review bids, fee proposals, scopes, exclusions and consultant appointments for commercial robustness.
• Advise on JCT and NEC contracts, novation, procurement, liability, collateral warranties and professional indemnity considerations.
• Recommend risk mitigations, revised terms and additional fee positions, escalating matters when specialist input or leadership approval is needed.
• Identify commercial risks on live projects and support change control and additional fee recovery.
• Support dispute avoidance, claims management and early resolution of commercial issues.
• Lead sub-consultancy arrangements and develop commercial reporting for leadership and the Project Assurance Committee.
• Provide guidance, coaching and training to project teams and future leaders.
• Balance commercial risk with design quality and technical assurance.

Requirements

• Substantial commercial management experience in construction, engineering consultancy, development or contractor-side delivery.
• Strong knowledge of appointment documents, JCT and NEC contracts, novation, indemnities, liability caps and professional indemnity insurance.
• Experience supporting complex multidisciplinary projects from inception through completion.
• Sound commercial judgement and ability to balance risk management with practical delivery and client relationships.
• Confidence and credibility to provide constructive challenge to colleagues and project leaders.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical and written communication skills.
• Experience in contract review, scope definition, fee proposals, change management, procurement routes and consultant appointments.
• Understanding of risk escalation and commercial governance, with ability to present commercial data clearly.

Compensation

• Salary is £85,000 to £95,000 per annum, based on 37.5 hours per week and pro rata for part-time work.

Working hours
