Position summary
Full-time, permanent CNC Machinist position at Magellan Aerospace’s Blackpool site.
Machine aircraft components from engineering models to customer specifications using aluminium or titanium and 3-, 4-, and 5-axis tools.
The role is governed by ITAR, and restrictions may apply.
Hours and shifts
- 34.5 hours per week, with day shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Four-week rotation: Sunday–Tuesday and Wednesday–Friday.
Work location
- Blackpool Business Park, Amy Johnson Way, Blackpool, FY4 2RP.
- Unionized site working in partnership with Unite the Union.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machines, including multiple machines when safe, and carry out component changeovers.
- Deburr and clean components; route work according to instructions or team lead direction.
- Resolve machining issues with minimal supervision and escalate unresolved problems.
- Complete job card documentation and provide accurate handover information to the next shift.
- Follow work lists, setup sheets, risk assessments, safety procedures, and company requirements; report safety incidents.
- Maintain housekeeping and a safe work area, and contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
Skills and qualifications
- Good general education and a recognized mechanical engineering qualification, at least City & Guilds or NVQ.
- At least 2–3 years of experience machining on 3-, 4-, or 5-axis machines.
- Knowledge of machine controls and health and safety; aerospace manufacturing experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of FANUC, Siemens, and Heidenhain controls and self-inspection.
- Problem-solving, clear communication, organization, methodical working, and teamwork.
- An HNC qualification is desirable.
