Role overview

The Chief Specialist, Asset Reliability reports to the Director of Technology Development within Technology & Innovation, Department of Asset Reliability.

The role provides enterprise leadership for asset reliability across business units and sites, connecting operational priorities, maintenance strategies, asset health insights, and technology capabilities.

The role shifts decisions toward proactive, predictive, and risk-based approaches to improve equipment performance, reduce disruption, and optimize total cost of ownership.

As enterprise domain authority, the role aligns reliability outcomes, decision logic, and technology priorities across assets.

Enterprise reliability strategy and outcomes

  • Shape enterprise asset reliability priorities, KPIs, and value outcomes across business units.
  • Establish reliability and maintenance decision principles that focus investment and intervention on high-value asset risks and opportunities.
  • Provide technical authority on asset reliability and influence strategies, priorities, and solutions across operational and technology stakeholders.

Reliability performance and value

  • Translate asset performance, maintenance, and cost challenges into improvement opportunities with measurable value hypotheses and success measures.
  • Enable proactive, predictive, and risk-based maintenance decisions to improve reliability, maintainability, availability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Use asset performance insights to identify recurring reliability constraints and focus improvement initiatives on sustainable performance.

Integrated solutions and technology enablement

  • Shape end-to-end solutions connecting asset health monitoring, diagnostics, maintenance planning, and operational execution.
  • Establish closed-loop approaches that use asset performance and maintenance outcomes to improve reliability decisions.
  • Ensure reliability solutions are scalable, interoperable, and aligned with operational requirements and enterprise technology direction.
  • Align Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain stakeholders around asset criticality, reliability priorities, and performance outcomes.
  • Partner with analytics, AI, monitoring, and digital teams to translate reliability needs into deployable technology solutions.
  • Integrate reliability initiatives and technical designs to reduce fragmentation, strengthen reuse, and accelerate enterprise adoption.

Technical leadership and capability

  • Advance enterprise reliability practices by applying proven methods, technology, and data-driven approaches to priority asset challenges.
  • Build reliability capability through technical guidance, knowledge transfer, and consistent practices across relevant teams.

Success measures

Reliability priorities, KPIs, and value outcomes are consistently defined and applied across relevant business units and assets.

Targeted, data-driven interventions improve asset reliability, availability, and maintainability.

Maintenance decisions increasingly use proactive, predictive, and risk-based insights rather than reactive intervention.

Reliability improvements reduce avoidable disruption and optimize total cost of ownership.

Asset health, maintenance planning, and operational execution work through effective closed-loop decision-making.

Reliability solutions and technology investments scale, align with business priorities, and deliver measurable operational value.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maintenance, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in asset reliability, maintenance, asset management, or industrial operations.
  • Strong experience applying reliability engineering and maintenance strategies in asset-intensive environments.
  • Experience using digital, analytics, or advanced technologies to improve asset reliability and maintenance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing reliability priorities and outcomes across multiple functions or business units.

Skills that matter

  • Asset reliability and reliability engineering.
  • Maintenance strategy and asset performance management.
  • Asset criticality and lifecycle optimization.
  • Predictive and condition-based maintenance.
  • Reliability analytics and data-driven decision-making.
  • Total cost of ownership and value realization.
  • Digital and technology-enabled reliability solutions.
  • Systems thinking and solution integration.
  • Cross-functional stakeholder influence.
  • Technical leadership and capability building.
