Role overview

The Manager leads identification, development, deployment, and adoption of AI solutions across exploration, geology, resource modeling, mine planning, drilling and blasting, material movement, fleet optimization, production, and mine safety.

The role translates operational challenges into scalable AI solutions and works with exploration, mining, engineering, OT, IT, Digital, and Enterprise AI teams to deliver measurable value.

Portfolio and solution delivery

  • Develop and maintain a prioritized AI use-case portfolio aligned with business strategy, site priorities, and operating targets.
  • Assess value, feasibility, data readiness, scalability, risk, and adoption needs; define objectives, roadmaps, resources, benefits, and success measures.
  • Lead design, development, testing, deployment, and improvement of AI, machine learning, optimization, computer vision, and geospatial analytics solutions.
  • Support exploration targeting, geological interpretation, resource estimation, mine planning, drilling and blasting, fleet productivity, ore tracking, and real-time decisions.
  • Ensure solutions are production-ready, scalable, maintainable, explainable, and aligned with operational and technical requirements.

Operational impact and integration

  • Partner with exploration, geology, mine planning, technical services, operations, maintenance, and safety teams to address high-value challenges.
  • Use predictive and prescriptive analytics to improve discovery targeting, orebody understanding, plan compliance, equipment utilization, cycle times, material movement, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Support hazard detection, fatigue and proximity analytics, equipment health insights, and safer operational decisions.
  • Coordinate integration with geoscience, mine planning, fleet management, OT, historian, asset, enterprise application, and digital twin systems.
  • Work with Enterprise AI and AI & ML Ops teams on approved platforms, reusable components, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and model lifecycle standards.

Adoption, leadership, and governance

  • Monitor deployed models for performance, reliability, drift, availability, and continued business value.
  • Embed AI outputs into exploration workflows, technical services, dispatch, operating practices, planning, and management decisions.
  • Lead user engagement, change management, training, and knowledge transfer; track benefits against safety, discovery, planning, production, productivity, reliability, cost, and sustainability measures.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team; set priorities, delivery standards, performance expectations, and development plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, cybersecurity, data and model governance, responsible AI, quality, and operational risk requirements; manage scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Maintain technical documentation, portfolio reporting, benefit tracking, and stakeholder communication.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Geomatics, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in AI, advanced analytics, geospatial analytics, mining optimization, automation, or digital transformation; related asset-intensive industry experience is desirable.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering AI or advanced analytics in exploration, mining, or operational environments.
  • Experience taking solutions from use-case definition through development, production deployment, adoption, and value realization.

Skills and domains

  • AI strategy and portfolio management; machine learning, optimization, computer vision, geospatial analytics, and time-series analytics.
  • Data science, generative AI, NLP, LLMs, and Agentic AI.
  • Exploration, geology, resource modeling, mine planning, drilling and blasting, fleet optimization, material movement, and mine safety.
  • Predictive maintenance, equipment health, condition monitoring, and asset reliability.
  • Geoscience, mine planning, fleet management, OT, and digital twin systems; MLOps, model monitoring, and production deployment.
  • Responsible AI, cybersecurity, data governance, operational risk, value realization, team leadership, stakeholder management, and change management.

Success measures

A focused portfolio delivers measurable business value and improved exploration targeting, orebody understanding, safety, planning, production, equipment utilization, and productivity.

Production-grade AI is adopted and sustained, with reliable model performance, effective governance, and clear operational ownership.

A capable team and strong cross-functional collaboration support reduced variability, downtime, safety exposure, and manual decision-making.
