Role overview

The Buyer joins SUMWON STUDIOS’ Central Buying function to develop and execute BALR.’s global product strategy.

The role balances commercial judgment, product sensibility, and operational execution, using group sourcing, data, and technology to improve product innovation and speed to market.

Range planning and buying

  • Develop seasonal buying plans and balanced collections across core essentials, mainline, activewear, and seasonal fashion.
  • Translate creative direction into viable collections and establish product architecture across silhouettes, fabrics, colors, branding, and price points.
  • Own seasonal buying from range selection and option planning through quantity recommendations, order placement, and delivery.
  • Set pricing and manage product costing, markups, intake margins, sales, sell-through, stock, and commercial targets.
  • Monitor in-season performance and act on demand changes, stock risks, markdown exposure, and sales or margin opportunities.

Product development and operations

  • Work with product development and sourcing teams to meet standards for quality, fit, fabric, finish, value, target cost, and timelines.
  • Review supplier costing, minimum order quantities, lead times, and production capabilities; identify and resolve product, quality, production, and delivery risks.
  • Manage the buying critical path, tracking development, sampling, costing, approvals, purchase orders, and deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate product data, buying records, purchase orders, and range information; escalate delays, cost variances, and delivery risks.

Reporting and collaboration

  • Produce buying and product performance updates covering sales trends, margins, stock exposure, and opportunities.
  • Use data, reporting tools, and emerging technologies to improve forecasting, product selection, range efficiency, and decisions.
  • Collaborate across design, merchandising, product development, sourcing, supply chain, marketing, e-commerce, wholesale, and other teams.
  • Support scalable buying processes, special projects, collaborations, and business opportunities across BALR. and the wider portfolio.

Experience and capabilities

  • Proven buying experience in fashion, sportswear, premium apparel, or lifestyle brands and understanding of the end-to-end buying process.
  • Commercial and analytical ability to turn sales data, customer insights, and trends into range plans, pricing strategies, and buying decisions.
  • Knowledge of fashion and sportswear trends, range architecture, option planning, product lifecycle, range productivity, costing, pricing, margins, stock, and markdown control.
  • Understanding of garment manufacturing, fabric and trim development, supplier capabilities, minimum order quantities, lead times, and production critical paths.
  • Experience working directly with sourcing teams and overseas suppliers is highly advantageous.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, negotiation, planning, organization, and attention to detail; able to manage priorities and deadlines.
  • Interest in AI, digital tools, and data-driven processes; comfortable working across global teams, markets, and suppliers.

Benefits

  • 25 days of annual leave, increasing to 30 days after the first year.
  • 30% employee discount across SUMWON STUDIOS brands.
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities and company social events.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a growing multi-brand platform and work with a high-performing team.
