Azure API Management (APIM) Developer

Role summary

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement APIM APIs, products, subscriptions, versions, and revisions.
• Develop policies for authentication, authorization, rate limits, quotas, caching, transformations, routing, retries, and error handling.
• Secure APIs with Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0/OIDC, JWT validation, client certificates, and managed identities.
• Integrate APIM with Azure Functions, App Service, AKS, Logic Apps, Service Bus, and on-premises systems using VNet integration and self-hosted gateways.
• Define OpenAPI/Swagger contracts and enforce standards for naming, versioning, errors, and pagination.
• Automate deployment with APIOps, Bicep, ARM, or Terraform and Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Maintain the APIM Developer Portal and support consumer onboarding.
• Monitor API health, performance, and usage with Application Insights, Azure Monitor, and Log Analytics; troubleshoot production issues.
• Use secure network components such as Application Gateway/WAF, Azure Front Door, private endpoints, and Key Vault.
• Collaborate with technical teams on performance, availability, and compliance; produce documentation, integration guides, and runbooks.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years in software or integration development, including at least 2 years of hands-on Azure API Management experience.
• Strong command of APIM policies and policy expressions; solid understanding of REST, HTTP, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and mTLS.
• Experience with at least one of C#/.NET, Java, or Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with Bicep, ARM, or Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
• Working knowledge of Azure VNets, private endpoints, NSGs, and DNS.
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID app registrations and API permissions.

Preferred qualifications

• AZ-204, AZ-305, or AZ-500 certification; APIM self-hosted gateways, multi-region deployments, or Premium/v2 tiers.
• Familiarity with Event Grid, Service Bus, GraphQL, or SOAP-to-REST patterns.
• Government or regulated-environment integration experience, including knowledge of Qatar NIA standards, is preferred.
• Arabic language skills are a plus.
