Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, test, and commission ABB automation systems, controllers, I/O, servers, networks, and redundant architectures.
• Develop control logic, interlocks, sequences, libraries, I/O databases, backups, displays, alarms, trends, historian interfaces, and HMI functions.
• Engineer SAS, electrical SCADA, and PMS, integrating electrical equipment, IEDs, relays, PLCs, RTUs, drives, gateways, and third-party systems.
• Perform IEC 61850 engineering and configure or troubleshoot industrial protocols, networks, redundancy, and remote telemetry.
• Lead FAT, SAT, loop checks, commissioning, startup, migrations, shutdowns, cutovers, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance.
• Apply cybersecurity practices and support virtualization, backup and recovery, licensing, lifecycle management, documentation, training, and warranty support.

Technical skills

• Core technologies include ABB System 800xA, AC800M, Control Builder M, Engineering/Operations Workplace, and S800 I/O.
• Relevant capabilities include IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, OPC, industrial networks, redundancy, and Wireshark diagnostics.
• Cybersecurity and systems knowledge includes IEC 62443, VMware/Hyper-V, backup and disaster recovery, IEC 61131-3, ISA-18.2/IEC 62682, and relevant IEEE or client standards.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Electronics Engineering.
• 5–8 years in industrial automation, SCADA/DCS, or substation automation, including at least 3 years with ABB 800xA and AC800M.
• End-to-end delivery of at least two ABB 800xA projects covering engineering, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover.
• Hands-on integration of IEDs, relays, PLCs, RTUs, and gateways using IEC 61850 and industrial protocols.
• Ability to independently lead testing, shutdowns, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer-facing activities.
• Proficiency with P&IDs, SLDs, control schematics, I/O lists, cable schedules, and network drawings.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, reporting, and customer-facing skills; able to work independently and meet deadlines.
