Role purpose

Teaching

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on schedules assigned by the department chair.
• Prepare and revise course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, and other teaching materials; contribute to high-quality curriculum development.
• Provide students with syllabi and information about instruction and evaluation; monitor performance and offer remedial classes when needed.
• Select textbooks and teaching aids; set and mark exams, coursework, assignments, laboratory work, homework, and other activities.
• Use up-to-date instructional technology and deliver clear, consistent instruction.
• Supervise student research, practical work, thesis preparation, and thesis evaluation; participate in peer review and supervise teaching internships.
• Develop teaching competence and effectiveness in the faculty member’s area of expertise.

Research and scholarly activity

• Lead sustained research in metabolic disease, cancer, and/or longevity, producing peer-reviewed publications and other research outputs.
• Research focused on obesity or multifactorial questions is preferred.
• Share scholarly or creative work for critical peer review; present papers at professional meetings, seminars, and conferences and participate in professional panels.
• Identify and successfully pursue external funding and grants.
• Raise the department and faculty profile and participate in seminars that share research and build interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Collaborate with university colleagues and external partners on research and consultancy activities.

Academic service and mentorship

• Serve on departmental or university-wide working groups and committees; contribute to student recruitment, retention, and placement.
• Contribute to the wider community through participatory, developmental, or advisory service and support student organization activities.
• Follow university information security and confidentiality policies, report breaches or risks, and coordinate with other departments as needed.
• Contribute through peer review, editorial roles, professional organizations, outreach, collaboration, and public engagement.
• Mentor junior faculty, researchers, and graduate students; help maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
• Perform other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Required qualifications

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution; a top-150 globally ranked institution is preferred.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience, including at least five years at Associate Professor level.
• Demonstrated sustained record of peer-reviewed publications and research leadership using multifactorial approaches to metabolic disease, obesity, and/or cancer.
