Assistant Professor- Aerospace Engineering

Role purpose

Teaching

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in assigned subject areas and schedules.
• Prepare and revise course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, and teaching materials; contribute to curriculum development.
• Communicate course instruction and evaluation methods, select teaching aids, monitor performance, and provide remedial support when needed.
• Set and mark exams, coursework, assignments, laboratory work, homework, and other assessments.
• Use current instructional technology and deliver clear, consistent instruction.
• Supervise student research, practical work, thesis preparation, and thesis evaluation; supervise teaching internships.
• Participate in professional peer reviews and develop teaching effectiveness.

Research and scholarly activity

• Conduct research and produce publications or other outputs in line with agreed objectives.
• Engage in scholarly or creative work and make results available for critical peer review.
• Present papers and participate in panels at professional meetings, seminars, and conferences.
• Identify and pursue external funding and grants; raise the department and faculty profile.
• Share research outcomes through seminars and collaborate on research and consultancy activities within and beyond the university.

Academic service

• Contribute to university working groups and committees, student recruitment, retention, and placement.
• Provide community service and support student organization activities.
• Follow information security and confidentiality policies and report security risks.
• Coordinate with other departments, contribute to peer review, editorial work, and professional organizations, and engage in outreach and public engagement.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment and perform other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications and experience

• A PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience and proven research potential.
• A BSc or equivalent terminal degree in Aerospace Engineering is strongly preferable.
• Research or teaching in one or more of these areas is strongly preferred: composite structures; automatic flight controls; space mechanics; dynamics, control and vehicle autonomy; fixed-wing UAS.
• Experience in emerging areas such as AI/ML applications in aerospace systems is preferred.
