Assistant Professor - Computer Science and Informatics (Cybersecurity and Penetration Testing)

Role overview

Teaching and academic responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory sessions, and workshops, with emphasis on cybersecurity and penetration testing.
• Design hands-on cybersecurity laboratory activities and use appropriate digital learning technologies and inclusive teaching approaches.
• Develop, set, mark, and moderate assessments; provide constructive feedback to support student learning and progression.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects and dissertations in relevant cybersecurity and computing subjects.
• Contribute to module and programme design, review, and enhancement; keep curriculum content current and academically rigorous.
• Provide academic guidance and tutoring, and contribute to research, scholarship, professional development, and industry engagement.
• Participate in quality assurance, assessment moderation, annual monitoring, programme review, and academic governance.
• Contribute to recruitment, open days, induction, outreach, Faculty activities, and collaborative programme delivery.

Qualifications and experience

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computing, or a closely related discipline.
• Master's or equivalent postgraduate qualification and a completed PhD or Professional Doctorate in a relevant discipline.
• Highest qualification must be attested by UAE MOFA; hold or be able to obtain the relevant UAE Ministry of Education Equivalency Certificate as required.
• Higher-education teaching experience in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or a closely related subject.
• Practical experience in cybersecurity, penetration testing, ethical hacking, vulnerability assessment, or security testing.
• Experience delivering hands-on cybersecurity labs with industry-standard tools, and experience with higher-education assessment and feedback.
• Experience contributing to curriculum design, module development, validation, review, or enhancement.

Subject knowledge and skills

• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, threats, vulnerabilities, attack vectors, controls, and defensive approaches.
• Strong practical knowledge of penetration-testing and ethical-hacking methods, including scoping, reconnaissance, enumeration, exploitation, reporting, and remediation.
• Knowledge of network and system security, web and application security, vulnerability assessment, and secure computing.
• Practical capability with Kali Linux, Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite, Metasploit, or comparable industry tools.
• Understand legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities in cybersecurity and penetration testing.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and engagingly.
• Strong digital capability and confidence with virtual laboratories and technology-enhanced teaching.
