Assistant Labour Planner
Role Overview
Nestlé York Factory in North Yorkshire is the home of the iconic confectionary brands; KitKat; Aero; Milkybar and Yorkie amongst several other well-known brands. These are produced through controlled process plant and automated filling and packaging lines.
As Assistant Labour Planner, you will help ensure the right skills are available in the right production areas at the right time. You will turn workforce information into practical daily plans, improve visibility of labour performance and support better decisions around efficiency, flexibility and cost.
Your Impact
You will coordinate the daily labour plan for the York factory, responding to changing production needs while supporting effective workforce deployment. By improving planning processes, data quality and stakeholder collaboration, you will help the site use its people and systems more effectively.
Labour Planning: Create an effective daily labour plan that considers skills, training, holidays, absence, work restrictions and working time requirements.
Operational Responsiveness: Adjust plans in response to plant performance, changing demand and labour shortages, helping production teams maintain continuity.
Process Improvement: Improve the use of PeoplePlan and related planning processes, reducing manual effort and increasing the value of workforce data.
Skills Visibility: Maintain an accurate skills matrix that supports safe and flexible movement of colleagues between production areas.
Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with Line Performance Managers, Shift Leaders, Production Planning, Finance, Supply Chain and the temporary labour provider to secure the best allocation of people.
Reporting and Administration: Improve labour KPI reporting, support monthly forecasts and help ensure worked hours and supplier invoices are processed accurately and on time.
Your Ingredients for Success
You will combine practical planning and data capability with a collaborative approach. You will be comfortable responding to changing priorities, working to deadlines and helping others use systems and processes effectively.
Essential
Relevant Experience: Experience in a functional role within a food manufacturing or similarly operational environment.
Computer Skills: Ability to use computer systems confidently, including Excel spreadsheets, to manage data and produce accurate, useful reporting independently.
Planning and Organisation: Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to last-minute changes and deliver accurately to tight deadlines.
Attention to Detail: Ability to check information carefully, maintain accurate records and identify discrepancies that could affect labour plans, reporting or payments.
Collaboration: Ability to build effective working relationships across operational teams and with external service providers.
Desirable
Data Management: Experience of managing, checking and interpreting data to support operational decisions.
Training and Coaching: Experience of supporting or coaching colleagues to use systems, processes or reporting tools effectively.
Workforce Planning Systems: Exposure to labour planning, workforce management or scheduling systems, including PeoplePlan or a comparable platform.
