Department and research focus

Priority research areas

• Urban planning and development, including land use, housing, urban economics, governance, growth, and transformation.
• Urban analytics and spatial intelligence, including GIS, spatial analysis, urban data science, GeoAI, remote sensing, modeling, digital twins, and urban sensing.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses within departmental programs.
• Establish and maintain a productive, internationally visible research program and publish high-quality peer-reviewed research.
• Pursue competitive research funding where appropriate and supervise undergraduate and graduate research.
• Contribute to curriculum and program development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and departmental and university service.
• Engage with government, industry, and professional organizations where relevant.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. holders should demonstrate a strong disciplinary foundation, rigorous research methods, and ability to contribute to interdisciplinary urban research.
• Relevant backgrounds include urban planning, urban design, architecture, geography, geospatial science, environmental studies, transportation, urban economics, computational urbanism, or related fields aligned with the department's mission.
• Candidates should be able to develop internationally competitive research, contribute to Smart & Sustainable Cities education, and use rigorous methods appropriate to their research.
• The department values interdisciplinary collaboration, partnership development, and research addressing Saudi Arabia's urban transformation with wider international relevance.
• Applicants must have a strong refereed-journal publication record, graduate research supervision experience, and relevant university-level teaching experience.
• Applicants must be fluent in English, the university's medium of instruction.

Contract and benefits

• Two-year renewable contract and competitive tax-free salary based on qualifications and experience; no salary cadence is specified.
