Position overview

Administration and performance

• Install, configure, administer, maintain, and upgrade database systems and related infrastructure.
• Manage relational and non-relational platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
• Monitor performance, availability, resource use, storage, connectivity, and system health; plan capacity based on growth.
• Tune databases through query optimization, indexing, execution-plan analysis, and configuration changes.
• Troubleshoot database incidents, analyze root causes, and introduce preventive measures.

Reliability, security, and delivery

• Develop and test backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.
• Manage users, roles, permissions, authentication, and access controls; apply encryption, auditing, monitoring, patching, and security updates.
• Maintain database integrity and reliability across production, development, and testing environments.
• Support migrations, upgrades, integrations, platform changes, and deployments while minimizing disruption.
• Configure high availability, replication, clustering, failover, and other resilience solutions where required.

Collaboration and operations

• Work with application teams on schemas, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, functions, and SQL queries; advise on design, performance, and scalability.
• Automate routine administration, monitoring, maintenance, and reporting using scripting or automation tools where appropriate.
• Maintain database architecture, configuration, access, backup, recovery, and operational documentation.
• Support audits, incident response, disaster recovery exercises, system testing, and business continuity activities.
• Provide technical support and guidance; evaluate database technologies and tools; report on performance, capacity, incidents, security, maintenance, and improvements.

Education and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Database Management, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, Systems Administrator, or in a similar database-focused role.

Required technical qualifications

• Strong knowledge of database systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or equivalent platforms.
• Strong SQL skills, including complex query, stored procedure, function, and database-operation analysis and optimization.
• Understanding of database architecture, schemas, normalization, indexing, transactions, data integrity, and performance optimization.
• Practical experience with backup, restoration, disaster recovery, replication, high availability, and failover concepts.
• Knowledge of database security, access control, authentication, encryption, auditing, and performance monitoring.
• Familiarity with migrations, upgrades, patching, maintenance, change management, monitoring, logging, ticketing, IT service management, and administration tools.

Preferred qualifications and capabilities

• Cloud database experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud is advantageous.
• PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar scripting and automation knowledge is preferred.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and incident-management skills.
• Effective collaboration, documentation, communication, organization, and time management; handle sensitive business data confidentially and accurately.
• Certifications in SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS, Azure, ITIL, or other database technologies are advantageous.
