Role

Serve as the certified human safety operator aboard autonomous vehicles during the pilot phase; the vehicle drives autonomously unless manual intervention is needed.

Monitor the system, communicate with the Remote Operations Centre, log events, and follow structured validation protocols alongside engineering and training teams.

In-vehicle safety monitoring

  • Maintain situational awareness and monitor autonomous driving behavior, sensor alerts, and onboard displays throughout operations.
  • Take manual control when the system requests intervention or safety conditions require it.
  • Communicate clear status updates in English and follow pre-trip, in-trip, and post-trip safety checklists.

Route validation and reporting

  • Complete validation routes in Dubai as directed by the Validation Trainer and engineering team.
  • Log system events, interventions, anomalies, and environmental observations, including precise details of takeover events.
  • Photograph and document road conditions, signage anomalies, or infrastructure changes that may affect autonomous vehicle performance.
  • Submit complete shift logs and incident reports before the end of each shift.

Digital communication and vehicle readiness

  • Use onboard interfaces and fleet management systems for shift reports and vehicle status logs; escalate unusual behavior, concerns, and near-misses.
  • Participate in daily debriefs and provide clear written and verbal shift summaries.
  • Inspect sensor hardware, lights, tyres, and mirrors before each shift and immediately report damage, misalignment, or equipment faults.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean, charged or fuelled, and correctly equipped; complete post-trip checks and park at the depot.

Driving and education

  • Valid UAE driving licence with a clean record and no major violations in the past three years.
  • At least three years of active driving experience in the UAE or GCC and strong familiarity with Dubai roads and traffic.
  • Secondary school certificate minimum.

Communication and personal skills

  • Professional-level English for communication with engineers, incident reports, and independent use of digital systems.
  • Comfort using tablets, touchscreens, and onboard software; calm decision-making under pressure and high attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications and experience

  • RTA safety driver certification or AV/ADAS vehicle experience is a strong advantage; training is provided for the right candidate.
  • Fleet-app, delivery-platform, or other work-based digital-tool experience is an advantage.
  • A technical diploma or qualification in automotive, engineering, or IT is an advantage.

Schedule

  • Willingness to work shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends, according to the pilot schedule.

Performance expectations

Start each shift on time with a vehicle that has passed a complete pre-trip inspection.

Accurately log all events and observations before the shift ends and provide reports engineering teams can act on.

Take manual control at the appropriate time and maintain the safety of passengers and other road users.
