About the role

Appnovation is hiring a Technical Lead to own technical direction, quality, and the client relationship for a dedicated team serving a health and longevity client.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a line-management position.

The role includes design, coding, and review across a React and Next.js frontend and Python and Node.js services.

Technical direction and delivery

  • Set technical direction and own architecture and design decisions; maintain coding standards and best practices through code review.
  • Ensure developers test their own work before it reaches QA.
  • Own architecture, design-decision, and technical-specification documentation; turn individual guidance into reusable onboarding and handoff material.
  • Stay current on compliance requirements for handling personal health data.
  • Break plans into actionable tasks and stories, delegate work fairly, and coach and mentor developers.
  • Serve as the primary client contact for technical discussions; explain concepts, options, and status to non-technical stakeholders and manage expectations on scope, effort, and risk.
  • Lead technical input to planning, estimation, and backlog refinement; track milestones and budget with the project manager.
  • Identify technical risks early and escalate critical issues; seek client feedback and incorporate it into development cycles.
  • Spot opportunities to add client value and bring them to the account team.

Must-have qualifications

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2 or more years leading a team's technical direction.
  • Ability to turn a technical vision into a clear, actionable plan a team can execute.
  • Excellent communication with non-technical audiences.
  • Frontend technologies: React, Next.js, and TypeScript; backend technologies: Python and Node.js.

Nice to have

  • Consulting or agency experience managing client relationships alongside delivery.
  • Experience in health, life sciences, or other regulated industries, including handling sensitive personal data.
  • Experience establishing team practices from scratch on a new engagement.
