Role overview

Join the Platform Engineering team to build a next-generation machine learning platform for real-time fraud detection at scale.

The platform includes streaming systems, storage layers, and training pipelines supporting detection capabilities.

The role is a hands-on engineering leadership position focused on platform expansion, detection algorithms, and training automation.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction for streaming, storage, and training pipelines.
  • Turn roadmaps into technical plans, milestones, and execution priorities; identify risks and dependencies.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical decisions, and documentation of key decisions.
  • Code, review code, debug issues, and support production incidents.
  • Mentor engineers and raise standards for design, quality, operations, and execution.
  • Own alert quality, on-call load, incident follow-through, and root-cause prevention.
  • Partner with Product, TAM, and customer-facing teams on customer-impacting issues.
  • Set standards for AI-assisted engineering and develop LLM- and agent-assisted engineering and operations tools.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software development experience and 2+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to lead technical outcomes across a team, including work not personally implemented.
  • Production Java expertise; working proficiency in Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience designing, building, shipping, and operating distributed real-time systems at scale.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, relational databases, and SQL; experience with multithreaded and concurrent applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Cassandra, Yugabyte, Flink, Spark, or Kafka; experience with the Spring Framework.
  • Production use of AI coding tools and ability to define team practices for safe use and output verification.
  • Strong verification discipline using source code, logs, documentation, and production behavior.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in fraud, risk, payments, financial services, or another high-impact false-negative domain is preferred.
  • Experience owning ML platforms or large-scale training pipelines, or with Kubernetes, is preferred.
  • Experience with LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool calling, RAG, or MCP is preferred.
  • Experience evaluating or regression-testing non-deterministic systems is preferred.
  • Experience hiring, managing, or mentoring engineers and experience with test-driven development are preferred.

Compensation and benefits

  • Base salary range is CAD 130,000–CAD 170,000, commensurate with experience; no pay cadence is stated.
  • Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, and equity.
