Role overview

Responsibilities

• Alter, repair, and finish garments to instructions, measurements, and specifications.
• Take measurements, confirm alteration requirements, fit garments, and adjust for comfort and a professional finish.
• Perform hand and machine sewing, including hemming, stitching, seam repair, button replacement, and fastening adjustments.
• Assess fabrics and garments, using suitable methods and protecting delicate materials.
• Prioritise work, meet agreed timeframes, and check fit, finish, cleanliness, and quality before return.
• Handle garments and personal items carefully and respect privacy.
• Maintain clean and organised work areas and equipment; use equipment safely and report faults.
• Monitor supplies and report replenishment needs; follow garment handling, labelling, storage, collection, and delivery procedures.
• Follow health and safety, fire safety, security, and manual-handling procedures; perform other relevant tailoring duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a tailor, seamstress, garment alteration specialist, or in a similar role is desirable.
• Knowledge of garment construction, sewing, alterations, repairs, and finishing; ability to measure accurately and interpret instructions.
• Confident, safe use of sewing machines, hand-sewing tools, irons, and related equipment; understanding of fabric care.
• Attention to detail, organisation, time management, reliability, punctuality, and ability to work independently and with a team.
• Good communication, a professional manner, and discretion when handling garments and personal items.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive sewing and garment-handling tasks.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, according to business needs.
