The opportunity

Join KBR as a Systems Engineer on a complex, mission-critical Command and Control program delivering secure, integrated IT capabilities to Defence.

Work across cybersecurity, networks, software, and infrastructure, contributing to mission systems from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, and certification.

The role is described as involving system-level problem solving and integration, rather than documentation alone.

Responsibilities

  • Apply systems engineering practices to complex, multi-domain IT and mission systems.
  • Develop and manage requirements, architecture, and traceability across the lifecycle.
  • Work with software, cyber, network, and test teams to drive integration outcomes.
  • Define and support verification and test strategies for performance, security, and compliance.
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical decisions, and trade studies.
  • Support system certification, safety, and airworthiness activities where applicable.
  • Identify and resolve cross-domain system issues and integration risks.
  • Improve engineering processes and standards.

Essential qualifications

  • Experience applying systems engineering practices to complex IT or mission systems.
  • Ability to work across engineering disciplines and integrate outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, including translating technical issues into clear decisions.
  • Experience developing engineering artefacts such as requirements, ICDs, and test plans.
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Current NV1 security clearance at NV1 or above, which candidates must hold and maintain.
  • Eligibility to access ITAR-controlled technology.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience in Defence, aerospace, or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to software development and integration environments.
  • Knowledge of satellite communications or secure networks.
  • Experience with ASDEFCON frameworks.
  • Chartered or working toward CPEng / RPEQ.

What KBR offers

  • Flexible working, competitive salary with annual reviews, and paid parental leave.
  • Income protection, corporate rewards, salary packaging or novated leasing, and employee stock purchase plans.
  • Health and wellbeing offerings, including flu shots, skin checks, and discounted private health insurance.
  • Career development through online learning, mentorship, and career pathways.
  • Exposure to large-scale Defence programs and opportunities to grow into technical leadership roles.
