Hands-on systems integration engineering role for a mission-critical, globally deployed identity and mobility platform.
The role spans standards-based and custom integrations across Java microservices, event-driven architectures, edge environments, and cloud platforms.
Deployments range from low-power edge clusters in austere locations to centralized systems and AWS cloud architectures.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain secure integrations using REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, secure file and data exchange, and device interfaces.
- Modernize legacy integrations into Java microservices and build across edge, data center, and AWS deployments.
- Engineer for resilience, observability, auditability, latency, and intermittent or low-bandwidth networks.
- Integrate identity, verification, traveler data, biometric, document-capture, access-control, and gate systems.
- Define interface contracts, schemas, versioning, retry and idempotency behavior, and certification and test approaches.
- Troubleshoot across application, data, messaging, and network layers; collaborate with engineering, QA, field, analytics, and security teams.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 12 years of software engineering or systems integration experience.
- Strong hands-on experience building Java-based distributed services and production experience with API integration and event-driven messaging.
- Experience with one or more messaging platforms such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, JMS, or AMQP, or similar.
- Experience with MongoDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or comparable data platforms; AWS production deployment and operations are listed as experience areas.
- Experience supporting integrations in high-availability, mission-critical, or regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of integration security, schema evolution, error handling, retries, observability, and supportability.
- Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic integrations into service-oriented or microservices architectures; collaborative delivery ownership.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with HashiCorp tooling, especially Consul, Nomad, and Vault, or transferable adjacent platforms.
- Experience with AWS-native services and infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with ELK, Grafana, Kibana, Logstash, or other observability stacks.
- Experience integrating biometric devices, document readers, cameras, license plate readers, or other field peripherals.
- Experience with degraded, disconnected, or low-bandwidth environments.
