Supervises structural welding in the Curved Block Assembly Department for marine structures and vessels.
Coordinates equipment selection, permit validation, adherence to codes and drawings, and workforce performance to meet project specifications and timelines.
Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned welding work and ensure it is completed safely and on schedule in accordance with drawings, procedures, codes, and standards.
- Select suitable equipment and methods; obtain valid hot, cold, isolation, or other permits before welding.
- Monitor material use and address potential shortages; inspect completed welds for quality and specification compliance.
- Promote HSES compliance, participate in toolbox meetings, and address work-related risks.
- Inspect and maintain welding equipment and tools; train and mentor staff.
- Report progress, delays, and resource needs; coordinate with planning and quality control and support continuous improvement.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of experience in the offshore shipyard or ship-repair industry.
- Welding certificates for 2G, 3G, and 4G.
- Ability to perform manual 2G, 3G, and 4G welding and semi-automatic and automatic welding.
- Knowledge of GMAW, GTAW, EGW, SAW, auto carriage welding, and welding machine functions and theory.
- Ability to read ship design drawings and use basic computer operating systems.
- Knowledge of safety standards and protective equipment; able to produce inspection and progress reports.
- Technical or vocational welding education is preferred.
