Full Job Posting

Great stories deserve a great finishing touch.

We’re looking for a Sub-Editor to join our magazine team, working across much-loved titles including The People’s Friend and My Weekly.

This is a role for someone who notices the things others miss. The awkward sentence. The questionable fact. The headline that could work just that little bit harder.

You’ll work closely with our editors, designers and production colleagues to make sure every piece of content is accurate, engaging and ready for publication, whether it’s destined for print or digital.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be hands-on with content every day, including:

Sub-editing, proofreading and polishing copy for accuracy, consistency and readability

Reworking content where needed while keeping the writer’s original voice and intent

Crafting headlines, standfirsts, captions and other display copy

Fact-checking names, dates, quotes and story details

Making sure content meets our house style, editorial standards and publishing requirements

Working closely with editors, designers and production colleagues to keep things moving

Preparing content for both print and digital publication

Managing competing priorities and deadlines across different titles

Getting to grips with our publishing systems, tools and evolving technology, including AI-assisted editorial tools

Playing your part in maintaining the quality and trust our readers expect from our magazines

What we’re looking for

You’ll have a strong editorial eye, excellent written English and a genuine instinct for what makes copy work.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

Previous experience in sub-editing, editorial production, publishing, newspapers, magazines or content production

Excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills

Strong attention to detail and confidence fact-checking content

The ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences

Good knowledge of editorial standards, copyright and publishing considerations

Experience working with CMS or editorial production systems

Great organisation and the ability to juggle deadlines without compromising quality

A collaborative approach and the confidence to work across editorial, design and production teams

Experience with Adobe InDesign, image-editing software or AI-assisted editorial tools would be useful, but isn’t essential.

A little about you

You’re naturally curious, meticulous without losing sight of the bigger picture, and probably the person who spots the typo everyone else has read past three times.

You’re comfortable working at pace, happy switching between different styles and audiences, and you know that great sub-editing isn’t just about correcting copy. It’s about making good content better.

Most importantly, you care about the reader and about getting the details right.

Why DC Thomson?

You’ll be joining a business with storytelling at its heart and working with magazine brands that have built lasting relationships with generations of readers.

This is an opportunity to put your editorial skills to work across established titles, collaborate with experienced creative teams and continue developing your skills across print, digital and evolving publishing technology.

If you’ve got a sharp eye, a love of language and an instinct for making every word earn its place, we’d love to hear from you. Closing date applications: 28th October 2026 at 5pm
