Strategy Implementation Manager

The University of Bristol is launching an ambitious new vision and strategy, and the Strategic Programmes and Projects (SPP) team sits at the heart of enabling the University to execute it.

We are recruiting a Strategy Implementation Manager to help us keep delivery of the vision and strategy on the right track by monitoring implementation, supporting the University’s Strategy Implementation Board [SIB] to understand progress against our strategic objectives and outcomes, and helping to identify any changes or interventions required to the portfolio of change initiatives which support strategic implementation.

The post holder will be a key member of the Strategic Projects and Programmes [SPP] team, working closely with the SPP Portfolio Manager, leadership team and delivery team members as well as leaders across the wider institution (e.g. Planning and Business Intelligence team, Governance team, theme leads) to understand, report on progress in and make recommendations regarding our strategy implementation. This is a pivotal role in making sure that as we deliver day to day, we continue to focus our sights on our strategic objectives – helping to set the direction and tone for strategy implementation at the University of Bristol.

You will act as a focus point for Strategy implementation activity at the University, including monitoring progress; helping to ensure risks, issues and interdependencies are understood and managed; analysing performance data to anticipate and identify challenges; and using your expertise and insight to escalate and make recommendations about these to senior leaders. You will help to set the agenda for SIB’s discussions on strategy formulation and implementation on a regular basis.

In support of this you will work alongside the Portfolio Manager to build and leverage strong networks across those involved in strategy implementation at the University, building knowledge of, and insight into, the breadth and depth of our strategic delivery.

You will manage, and be the expert on, the University’s Strategy monitoring tool, influencing colleagues across the University to maximise adoption and thereby promote effective monitoring of our implementation.

Working with SPP colleagues (e.g. the Portfolio Manager on shape of the portfolios, Project Delivery Manager on programme and project delivery and the Senior Business Analyst (BA) on benefits tracking) you will support continued alignment of strategic projects and programmes with the University’s strategic objectives.

You have significant experience in the fields of strategic/business planning and/or strategy implementation, combined with proven analytical and problem-solving capability, and are looking for the opportunity to help one of the UK’s leading Universities to deliver an exciting new strategy and vision successfully.

You have proven ability to work positively and independently with the full range of individuals and groups, and possess excellent stakeholder relationship skills, including a commitment to continuous improvement in response to external stakeholder, staff and student requirements and to delivering a high level of customer service.
