Overview

The Sports Manager will be responsible for planning, managing, and delivering large-scale sports training programs and major sports events.

The role requires strong leadership, operational planning, stakeholder management, and event execution skills.

The Sports Manager will oversee coaches, trainers, volunteers, vendors, facilities, budgets, schedules, and participant experience to ensure all programs and events are delivered safely, professionally, and to a high standard.

This position is ideal for an experienced sports professional who can manage complex logistics, lead diverse teams, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and deliver impactful sports programs and events at scale.

1. Training Program Management

  • Plan, develop, and manage large-scale sports training programs for athletes, participants, schools, clubs, communities, or corporate groups.
  • Create annual, seasonal, and short-term training schedules in coordination with coaches, technical experts, and facility teams.
  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance of coaches, trainers, coordinators, and support staff.
  • Ensure training programs are structured, age-appropriate, inclusive, safe, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor participant attendance, progress, satisfaction, and overall program impact.
  • Coordinate equipment, venues, uniforms, transport, medical support, and other operational needs for training activities.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for training delivery, participant management, and coach conduct.
  • Evaluate program performance and recommend improvements based on feedback, data, and best practices.

2. Large-Scale Sports Event Management

  • Lead the planning and delivery of large-scale sports events, tournaments, competitions, festivals, leagues, and community sports activations.
  • Develop detailed event plans, including timelines, budgets, staffing plans, risk assessments, venue layouts, schedules, and contingency plans.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, sports federations, schools, clubs, sponsors, vendors, government entities, and venue operators.
  • Manage event operations before, during, and after the event, ensuring smooth execution across all functional areas.
  • Oversee registration, accreditation, fixtures, results management, field-of-play operations, ceremonies, hospitality, branding, and participant services.
  • Ensure events comply with health and safety standards, safeguarding requirements, venue regulations, and applicable sports rules.
  • Manage volunteers, temporary staff, officials, referees, marshals, and technical teams during events.
  • Conduct post-event reviews and prepare reports covering attendance, performance, incidents, budget, feedback, and recommendations.

3. Operations and Logistics

  • Manage day-to-day sports operations across multiple programs and events.
  • Coordinate facility bookings, equipment procurement, inventory, transportation, accommodation, catering, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure all operational plans are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with timelines and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, including schedules, attendance, incident reports, supplier contracts, budgets, and performance reports.
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation plans for programs and events.
  • Ensure emergency response plans, medical support, safeguarding protocols, and insurance requirements are in place.

4. Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and supervise sports coordinators, coaches, trainers, volunteers, and event support teams.
  • Assign responsibilities, set performance expectations, and provide guidance and feedback to team members.
  • Build strong relationships with athletes, parents, participants, sponsors, community partners, government bodies, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Act as a key point of contact for sports programs and events, ensuring clear communication with all stakeholders.
  • Support staff development through training, coaching, and performance reviews.

5. Budgeting and Reporting

  • Prepare and manage budgets for training programs and sports events.
  • Track expenses, monitor cost controls, process vendor payments, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Support sponsorship proposals, partnership opportunities, and revenue-generating sports initiatives where required.
  • Prepare regular reports on program performance, event outcomes, participation numbers, risks, incidents, and financial results.
  • Use data and feedback to improve future programs and events.

6. Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure all sports activities are delivered in a safe, inclusive, and professional environment.
  • Implement safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure coaches and staff follow codes of conduct, technical standards, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant sports federation rules, venue requirements, insurance policies, and local regulations.
  • Promote fair play, sportsmanship, diversity, inclusion, and participant wellbeing.

Required Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Event Management, Physical Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing sports programs, academies, leagues, tournaments, or large-scale sports events.
  • Experience managing teams of coaches, coordinators, volunteers, vendors, or event staff.
  • Strong knowledge of sports operations, training program delivery, event logistics, and venue management.
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, suppliers, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, risk management, and emergency planning in a sports environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, registration platforms, scheduling tools, or event management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Sports Management, Coaching, Event Management, First Aid, Safeguarding, or Project Management.
  • Experience working with schools, clubs, federations, government entities, or community sports programs.
  • Experience delivering multi-sport events or programs with large participant numbers.
