Role overview

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and patch database software; monitor performance and optimize data retrieval and processing.
• Develop and test backup and disaster-recovery plans; implement access controls, roles, and encryption.
• Troubleshoot performance, connectivity, and data-corruption issues.
• Support schema design, query optimization, and database best practices with development teams.
• Plan capacity and manage high-availability solutions, clustering, replication, and disaster-recovery testing.
• Maintain database documentation and automate routine tasks with scripts and tools.

Critical qualifications

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator.
• In-depth knowledge of one or more major DBMS platforms, such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Strong SQL, stored-procedure, trigger, and database-design skills; expertise in tuning and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and database security.
• Familiarity with Windows Server or Linux and strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• PowerShell or Bash scripting is advantageous; cloud database experience is a plus.

Workplace

• Hybrid arrangement; successful candidates must be based in Canada and report to a set Bell office at least three days per week.
