Special Education Teacher - Immediate start

Role and location

Teaching and learning

• Create a learning climate conducive to strong teaching and learning practice.
• Set clear learning objectives, challenging tasks, appropriate expectations, and targets based on prior attainment.
• Identify students with special educational needs or exceptional ability and differentiate teaching to meet their needs.
• Structure lessons to maintain pace, motivation, and challenge; use varied strategies, effective questioning, and appropriate learning resources.
• Use assessment and performance data to guide planning, differentiation, and improvements to teaching.
• Maintain discipline under the school's Behaviour for Learning Policy and encourage punctuality, good behavior, high work standards, and homework completion.

Assessment and professional duties

• Mark student work at least once every two weeks and set targets for progress.
• Assess and record student progress systematically, monitor strengths and development needs, and complete assessments required by examination bodies and school procedures.
• Prepare informative reports for parents.
• Produce, review, and update curriculum plans and schemes of work.
• Keep subject knowledge current through professional development and reading; attend relevant workshops.
• Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal or Vice Principal.

Qualifications and experience

• A bachelor's degree in Special Education Needs, or a bachelor's degree in a related subject with a PGCE or other teaching qualification.
• At least two years of teaching experience in a related field.
• Experience with students for whom English is an additional language.
• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services or police check.
