Education and experience
- High school diploma or GED and 4 years of experience in culinary, food and beverage, or a related professional area; OR a 2-year degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major and 2 years of relevant experience.
Culinary operations
- Maintain food handling and sanitation standards and ensure employee work areas are clean.
- Oversee culinary production and preparation; cook foods for regular service, special guests, and functions.
- Supervise shifts and kitchen workers, check food quality, and assist with food presentation.
- Coordinate event and meal service timing with restaurant and banquet departments.
- Comply with loss-prevention procedures and follow up on areas needing attention.
Team and department support
- Ensure staff have needed supplies, equipment, and uniforms and that staffing meets guest, operational, and financial needs.
- Participate in appraisals, provide feedback, respond to employee concerns, communicate expectations, and conduct training.
- Communicate department goals and support new menus, concepts, and promotions.
- Handle guest concerns and complaints and support excellent customer service.
Purchasing and administration
- Report equipment malfunctions, purchase supplies, and manage food and supply inventories according to budget.
- Attend and participate in pertinent meetings.
