Role overview

Leads a team within GM's Data Engineering organization building a unified Vehicle Data Platform that moves data and configuration between vehicle ECUs and the cloud.

The platform includes control-plane configuration, data-plane collection and transfer, SDKs for application teams, and unified logging infrastructure.

Software is delivered as libraries, apps, and services on Android, Linux, and QNX.

Work arrangement

  • Hybrid arrangement requiring attendance at the Markham or Oshawa office at least three times per week.

Team and technical leadership

  • Hire, develop, and manage software engineers, including goals, feedback, performance, and career growth.
  • Own software planning through release and field support; set technical direction and make architecture and design decisions.
  • Participate in design, code and test-case reviews, and prototyping as needed.
  • Mentor engineers and develop technical leads.

Engineering delivery and operations

  • Maintain reliability, performance, data privacy, and resource-use standards for software on production ECUs.
  • Scale unit and integration testing, development-process documentation, and release criteria.
  • Define roadmaps with application teams and stakeholders based on their needs and fleet data requirements.
  • Partner with platform, cloud, DevOps, cybersecurity, and privacy teams on software rollout, integration, and adoption.
  • Define production health metrics, lead incident response, and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Report status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and partner teams.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least six years of software development or systems engineering experience across Android, Linux, and/or QNX.
  • At least two years managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Java/Kotlin for Android, with platform-level integration experience.
  • Experience delivering software on production ECUs or other devices with limited resources.
  • Experience in at least one listed area: control-plane or fleet-management software, data pipelines, logging or telemetry, or SDKs and libraries.
  • Experience designing fleet-scale telemetry and scaling data flows from ECU to cloud.
  • Track record delivering critical software with reliability, performance, and data-privacy requirements.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across teams; technical communication and design-documentation skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Preferred experience includes building a team; delivering SDKs or libraries; control-plane or data-plane integration; fleet management, OTA, or remote configuration; and observability or logging.
  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity and data protection, familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure device-management services, and exposure to OpenTelemetry, protobuf, gRPC, or Fluent Bit are preferred.
  • Automotive domain familiarity, including ECU architectures, SoC platforms, diagnostics, and failure or crash analysis, is preferred.

Compensation

  • Salary range is $147,000 to $196,600.

Benefits

  • Benefits include paid time off, healthcare, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, pension contributions, and a vehicle purchase plan.
