Role and team

The role is on Modern Checkout, which develops a shared checkout platform for Expedia Group brands and travel products.

The platform aims to provide a secure, adaptable payment experience and support localized checkout flows.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve frontend and backend capabilities for the shared checkout platform.
  • Develop production-quality services and user experiences using Java, React, TypeScript, and related web technologies.
  • Design, build, test, debug, and maintain distributed microservices and frontend applications.
  • Apply system and low-level design, API design, and data modeling practices.
  • Work with AWS or comparable cloud platforms and contribute to Kotlin services where required.
  • Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions and workflows responsibly.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Hands-on Java and React experience, including TypeScript within the React ecosystem.
  • Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Ability to own full-stack features through development, testing, debugging, and delivery; willingness to work with Kotlin.

Preferred qualifications

  • Production Kotlin services experience, including Kotlin-based services using GraphQL.
  • Experience with Spring Boot, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, API design, and data modeling.
  • Experience designing scalable, reliable systems and contributing to customer-facing platform design.
  • Strong testing, debugging, and operational problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven tools or workflows and validating AI-generated output.
