Senior Traffic Safety Engineer (Rail)

Role overview

Traffic safety planning and design

• Develop, review, and approve Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCPs) in line with DMT regulations and the Abu Dhabi WZTM Manual.
• Plan work zones, lane closures, detours, pedestrian routes, and staging for live traffic interfaces.
• Optimize traffic management plans for safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to road users.

Site supervision and compliance

• Inspect TTCP implementation, including signage, barriers, delineators, and lighting.
• Monitor contractor compliance with approved safety plans and enforce corrective actions for non-compliance.
• Ensure work zones meet visibility, accessibility, and emergency-response safety standards.

Risk and incident response

• Identify and mitigate traffic risks through hazard assessments and safety audits.
• Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
• Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders to resolve traffic safety issues.

Stakeholder engagement

• Liaise with Abu Dhabi authorities, including DMT and police, to secure approvals and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, utility providers, and multidisciplinary teams to align safety measures with project requirements.

Training and reporting

• Deliver traffic safety training and toolbox talks on work-zone setup, device placement, and emergency protocols.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote awareness of traffic safety standards.
• Maintain inspection, incident, and corrective-action records; prepare weekly and monthly reports with KPIs and compliance metrics.
• Update and maintain redline/as-built TTCPs for project documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation/Traffic Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A Master's degree is a plus, particularly for senior-level candidates.
• Professional engineering registration or chartered status, such as PE, CEng, or an equivalent recognized by UAE authorities, is preferred.

Onboarding

• Newly hired employees must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.
