What you'll do

• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during product development, articulating technical constraints and helping make decisions that account for risks and trade-offs.
• Identify project, process, technology, and business issues and lead efforts to resolve them.
• Monitor team artifacts and operational availability using metrics, escalation, maintenance, and on-call support.
• Set or improve code review and design standards and advocate for quality and ownership through writing and technical talks.
• Provide feedback and guidance to develop team talent.

What we're looking for

• At least 4 years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Track record developing highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, extensible designs.
• Ability to write high-quality, understandable code and make significant changes safely in large codebases.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Base pay

• For California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, the base pay range is $195,000–$255,000 per year.
• For other US states, the base pay range is $173,000–$233,000 per year.
• Total compensation may include equity, monthly health, wellness, and technology stipends, and benefits.

Workplace

• Affirm is remote-first; most roles can be performed from almost anywhere within the country of employment.
• Some positions may occasionally require in-person office work, and all new hires are invited to in-person onboarding.
