Senior Sensor Engineering Leader

Role Overview

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery across hardware design, embedded software, signal processing and verification.
• Balance new development with sustaining engineering, field escalations and manufacturing support.
• Partner with the systems architect on delivery, staffing and execution while the architect owns cross-system design authority.
• Productionize neural-network-based detection within embedded sensor platforms with the AI/ML specialist.
• Develop managers, technical leads, early-career engineers and senior individual contributors.
• Lead a distributed team and coordinate with a distributed customer base.
• Own roadmap planning, estimation, resourcing and make-or-buy decisions with Product Management.
• Oversee manufacturing interfaces, design-for-manufacture, documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Own quality outcomes and resolution of complex field issues spanning hardware, firmware and installation environments.
• Establish engineering standards, design reviews and delivery discipline, and recruit and retain senior talent.

Required Experience

• Leadership of combined hardware and embedded software teams, including management of other managers.
• Deep grounding in at least one sensor domain, including embedded systems, signal processing, RF, electro-optics or electronics design.
• End-to-end physical product delivery from concept through verification, certification, manufacturing transfer and field support.
• Experience with long-lifecycle products, backward compatibility, installed-base support and reliability constraints.
• Experience developing engineers and leading senior individual contributors alongside architect-level peers.
• Experience leading distributed or multi-site engineering teams.
• Strong estimation, prioritization and predictable execution across parallel hardware and software workstreams.

Nice to Have

• Perimeter security, physical security, defense or other safety- and security-critical product experience.
• Fiber-optic sensing, distributed acoustic sensing, radar, microwave detection or similar sensing technology experience.
• Machine-learning detection or classification on embedded or edge platforms.
• Electronic product certification, design-for-manufacture or AI-assisted engineering workflow experience.
• Experience taking over an established team and earning credibility with senior staff.

Team Structure

• The engineering team is distributed across sites, and the customer base is distributed globally.
