Senior Python Engineer (Backend and Data)

Role overview

Backend and API responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Python frameworks.
• Build high-concurrency asynchronous services with asyncio and optimize I/O performance.
• Design and maintain scalable internal web frameworks and take them into production.
• Integrate user-facing features with server-side logic alongside frontend teams.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented code that follows coding standards.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and encryption; secure APIs using OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API gateways.

Data and engineering responsibilities

• Build dataset-serving backend systems and ORM-based data access layers.
• Design and optimize relational and NoSQL schemas, queries, and database performance.
• Build ETL pipelines to extract, clean, aggregate, and enrich data while ensuring quality and integrity.
• Work with big data and streaming technologies such as Spark, Kafka, and Hadoop.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines; write unit and integration tests; debug production issues with logging and profiling tools.
• Use Git for version control, reviews, and pull requests; document technical work and contribute to code reviews.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in Python backend development.
• Strong hands-on experience with FastAPI and/or Flask, plus working knowledge of Django.
• Experience with asyncio, concurrent programming, and microservices architecture.
• Experience securing APIs with OAuth, JWT, and API gateways.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with SQLAlchemy or Django ORM.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, or Cassandra.
• Experience building ETL or data transformation pipelines.
• Familiarity with Spark, Kafka, or Hadoop, data warehousing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency in Shell scripting and strong Git and collaborative development experience.

Preferred skills

• Cloud platform experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP is preferred.
• Containerization and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes is preferred.
• Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and data security best practices is preferred.
• Experience in banking, fintech, or other regulated environments is preferred.
