About Behavox

Behavox is a cloud-native AI company providing an integrated controls platform for financial institutions and other regulated businesses.

Its SaaS platform supports communications and trade surveillance, compliant archiving, policy management, and front-office analytics.

Role overview

The Senior NLP Engineer is an experienced individual contributor on the Behavox AI team, recruited for the Toronto office.

The role develops NLP and AI capabilities for multilingual communications data, including email, chat, and voice transcripts.

The role owns data foundations for NLP pipelines and works with research scientists, product managers, MLOps, and engineering.

The engineer also provides technical expertise to the revenue team when clients ask how the AI works.

Responsibilities

  • Develop communication assistance features and risk-detection capabilities using existing NLP technologies and AI solutions, including LLMs.
  • Design, train, fine-tune, and evaluate NLP models, and move them from prototype to production with MLOps and engineering.
  • Design, develop, and maintain databases for NLP pipelines and develop a strategic blueprint for database deployment.
  • Develop data administration policies, standards, and models; test data models and database management systems before and after release.
  • Identify IT and data infrastructure improvements and implement practical changes.
  • Document reporting needs, queries, logic, results, and recommendations for other information-systems professionals.
  • Advise product and engineering teams, explain model behaviour to clients alongside the revenue team, and mentor engineers through Git workflows and code review.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer engineering or a related field, such as computer science, computational linguistics, or machine learning.
  • At least 5 years of experience building NLP, data science, or machine-learning systems, including production-shipped solutions.
  • English language ability.
  • Hands-on experience with transformer models and LLMs, including fine-tuning, RAG, and embedding-based search.
  • Experience with text classification, entity recognition, and relationship extraction.
  • Experience building evaluation datasets and metrics, working with limited and imbalanced data, and explaining model behaviour to non-specialists.
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing databases, data models, and database management systems.
  • Strong Python; working knowledge of C, C++, Go, Java, and JavaScript; daily use of Git.
  • The supplied description cuts off during a production-engineering skills statement.

Technical skills

  • NLP and AI skills include transformer models, LLMs, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, embedding-based search, text classification, entity recognition, and relationship extraction.
  • Data science skills include evaluation datasets and metrics, handling limited or imbalanced data, and interpreting model behaviour.
  • Database skills include database design, data modelling, development, and testing.
  • Programming skills include strong Python, working knowledge of C, C++, Go, Java, and JavaScript, and daily Git use.

Workplace

  • The role is for the Behavox Toronto office.
