Senior Engineering Manager – Service Transformation & Platform Capabilities

Role Overview

Service Transformation

• Build and manage high-ownership squads and own transformation delivery cadence, quality, predictability, and cutover planning.
• Translate architecture, service boundaries, migration seams, and compatibility strategies into staffed and sequenced execution plans.
• Set standards for shared-service design, contracts, versioning, documentation, and consumption by applications, AI agents, and partners.
• Lead staged migrations, dual-running, cutovers, rollback readiness, and post-cutover hypercare to preserve customer continuity.
• Modernize legacy database-centric business logic into testable cloud-native services and retire duplicated builds and aging infrastructure.

Engineering and Team Leadership

• Create automated validation loops for contracts, parity, runtime behavior, user experience, and production evidence.
• Make AI-assisted code comprehension, design, implementation, migration analysis, test generation, and documentation repeatable team practices.
• Recruit, coach, develop, and manage engineers working across legacy code and modern service design.
• Partner with product, program leadership, principal engineering, SRE, security, and data teams to manage dependencies and risks.

What You Bring

• Experience leading backend or platform teams delivering complex, high-throughput production systems.
• Experience decomposing monoliths, extracting services, defining domain boundaries, and delivering migrations to production.
• Java and Spring or comparable enterprise backend fluency sufficient to review designs and unblock teams.
• Knowledge of compatibility, staged rollout, data migration, dual-running, rollback, and live traffic migration.
• Strong discipline in automated testing, code review, observability, dependency health, secure coding, and production validation.
• Experience hiring, coaching, developing, and managing engineering performance.
• Ability to align cross-functional teams, communicate technical risk in business terms, and sequence work against dependencies.
• Ability to turn AI-assisted engineering opportunities into repeatable team practices.

Bonus Points

• Modernization of large Java and Spring estates, including runtime and framework upgrades.
• Experience with Oracle, Kafka, complex data migration, or reporting dependencies.
• Experience delivering shared or platform services across multiple product teams.
• AWS cloud migrations and decommissioning of legacy infrastructure or data centers.
• Designing APIs and services for agentic or LLM consumption, including MCP or similar frameworks.
• Leading adoption of AI coding assistants or agents in day-to-day engineering.
