Senior Digital Firmware Engineer
Role Overview

Develop, integrate, support, and maintain firmware for aerospace and defence systems and subsystems.

Responsibilities
- Develop VHDL firmware for FPGA and SoC devices and optimize firmware for CPLDs such as Max10.
- Lead FPGA design life-cycle work from concept through implementation, following RTCA DO-254 where applicable.
- Create automated test benches to verify firmware designs.
- Debug and test FPGA and SoC systems and resolve digital and analogue issues at PCB assembly level.
- Support E-CAD design and review of FPGA-based digital circuits and ensure firmware integrates with PCB layouts.
- Write embedded C code to interface firmware with SoC software and develop board support packages.
- Maintain firmware requirements, design descriptions, and test documents in line with military and industry standards, including DO-178 where applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5–8 years of hands-on FPGA firmware development with FPGA and SoC devices; defence-environment experience is preferred.
- Strong proficiency in VHDL.
- Experience with Intel Altera and/or AMD Xilinx FPGAs and CPLD devices, such as Cyclone, Zynq 7000, or Max10.
- Experience with embedded C programming for SoC systems.
- Knowledge of digital and analogue circuit design and ability to debug PCB assemblies.
- Familiarity with DO-254 and DO-178 standards.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills, with ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred tools and training
- Vivado, Quartus II, HDL Designer, Altium Designer, Eclipse, Git, and ModelSim/Questa are preferred.
- Relevant courses or certifications in FPGA development, embedded systems, DO-254, or DO-178 are preferred.
