Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines and processing solutions.
• Implement secure, efficient, maintainable data ingestion and integration patterns across Azure services.
• Develop data models for analytics and operational use with analysts and architects.
• Improve engineering standards, coding conventions, and design patterns.
• Mentor data engineers, review code and pipelines, and guide engineering practices.
• Investigate data issues, find root causes, and implement preventative measures.
• Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot pipelines and storage for reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness.
• Develop data flows and transformations, including SQL logic, stored procedures, and views.
• Contribute to the Azure data platform, including Synapse and layered data architecture.

Essential criteria

• Diagnose complex data issues and deliver robust solutions; collaborate across engineering, analysis, architecture, and service teams.
• Explain data engineering concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders and maintain attention to data quality and accuracy.
• Experience building data pipelines on cloud platforms such as Azure Synapse, Data Factory, or Databricks.
• Experience with SQL-based transformations, ELT patterns, relational and/or big data technologies, and production data platforms.
• Experience with CI/CD, version control, and automated testing in data engineering workflows.
• Strong SQL and data transformation skills; proficiency in Azure data tools such as ADF, Synapse, Delta Lake, or Data Lake Gen2.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT and data integration patterns; familiarity with infrastructure as code, DevOps, and monitoring.
• Python, PySpark, or similar languages are desirable.
