Role overview

Data engineering delivery

• Design, build, test and maintain scalable pipelines and processing solutions; implement secure, efficient and maintainable Azure ingestion and integration patterns.
• Develop data flows and transformations, including SQL logic, stored procedures and views; contribute to Azure Synapse and layered data architecture.
• Model data for analytics and operational use in collaboration with analysts and architects.

Standards, leadership and reliability

• Improve engineering standards, coding conventions and design patterns; mentor engineers and review code and pipelines.
• Diagnose data issues, perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
• Monitor, optimise and troubleshoot pipelines and storage for reliable, performant and cost-effective services.

Essential criteria

• Technical problem-solving, collaboration, clear communication and attention to data quality, accuracy and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership through design guidance, code and pipeline reviews, and alignment with agreed standards and architecture.
• Experience building cloud data pipelines, SQL transformations and ELT patterns; work with relational and/or big data technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD, version control, automated testing and platform support across multiple environments including production.
• Strong SQL and data transformation skills; proficiency with Azure tools such as ADF, Synapse, Delta Lake or Data Lake Gen2.

Additional technical criteria

• Knowledge of ETL/ELT principles and data integration patterns; familiarity with infrastructure as code, DevOps and monitoring.
• Python, PySpark or similar languages are desirable.
