Job summary

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines and processing solutions.
• Design and implement secure, efficient, maintainable ingestion and integration patterns across Azure services.
• Develop data models for analytical and operational use with analysts and architects.
• Improve engineering standards, coding conventions, and design patterns.
• Mentor engineers, review code and pipelines, and guide engineering best practice.
• Investigate data issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement preventative measures.
• Monitor and optimize pipelines and storage for reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness.
• Develop data flows and transformations, including SQL logic, stored procedures, and views.
• Contribute to Azure platform evolution, including Synapse and layered data architecture.

Essential criteria

• Diagnose complex data issues and deliver robust solutions; collaborate across engineering, analytics, architecture, and service teams.
• Explain data engineering concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders and maintain attention to data quality and accuracy.
• Experience building pipelines with modern cloud platforms such as Azure Synapse, Data Factory, or Databricks.
• Experience with performant SQL transformations, ELT patterns, relational and/or big data technologies, and production data platforms.
• Experience using CI/CD, version control, and automated testing in data engineering workflows.
• Strong SQL and transformation skills, proficiency in Azure data tools, and knowledge of ETL/ELT and integration patterns.
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, DevOps practices, and monitoring; Python, PySpark, or similar languages are desirable.
