Senior Civil Design Engineer- Substation

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Perform civil and structural design for HV/EHV AIS/GIS substation projects.
• Prepare and review layouts, site grading, roads, drainage systems, and underground utilities.
• Design transformer and equipment foundations, GIS and control buildings, cable trenches, cable pits, and other substation structures.
• Prepare and review RCC and structural steel calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Review geotechnical reports and coordinate foundation design requirements.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, BOQs, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with primary and secondary electrical, structural, MEP, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review vendor and subcontractor drawings for compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
• Support project execution and construction teams with technical design input.
• Resolve technical queries and design interface issues, and support as-built documentation.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant civil design experience, preferably in HV/EHV substations.
• Hands-on civil design experience for 132kV, 220kV, or 400kV substations.
• Strong AIS/GIS substation civil and structural design expertise.
• Experience with substation layouts, grading, drainage, equipment foundations, and underground civil works.
• AutoCAD proficiency is required; Civil 3D experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of relevant IEC, international, and GCC utility standards.
• Ability to independently prepare, review, and coordinate engineering designs and technical documentation.
• Strong technical coordination and communication skills.

Preferred experience

• UAE/GCC experience is highly preferred, particularly on DEWA, TAQA, SEWA, SEC, or similar utility projects.
• Experience in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, or Bahrain substation projects is preferred.
• UAE-based candidates are preferred; overseas candidates with relevant substation design experience who are willing to relocate to Dubai are welcome.
• Candidates with only general building, infrastructure, construction execution, or site supervision experience will not be considered.
