R&D Specialist

Role overview

Product development and testing

• Lead development and localization of formulations for customer, manufacturing, and market requirements.
• Drive innovation in e-mobility, lightweighting, battery solutions, sustainable materials, and advanced industrial applications.
• Design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments and application tests; operate and maintain testing equipment.
• Develop and validate test methods, interpret results, and prepare technical reports and recommendations.

Projects and manufacturing support

• Manage product-development projects under Sika Product Creation Process guidelines, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
• Coordinate work across Operations, Quality, Procurement, Technical Service, Sales, and Global R&D.
• Support pilot and commercial scale-up; develop manufacturing instructions, process parameters, and quality controls.
• Troubleshoot formulation, raw material, and manufacturing issues and help optimize production efficiency and consistency.

Customer support and compliance

• Support customer trials, product implementation, technical discussions, visits, audits, and application evaluations.
• Investigate product performance issues and recommend corrective actions; support key customer projects.
• Document experiments and project findings, comply with safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements, and protect proprietary information.
• Share technical knowledge, support internal training, and participate in regional and global technical forums.

Education and experience

• Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Polymer, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
• 8–10 years in R&D, application testing, customer support, or technical service in specialty chemicals, adhesives, and sealants.
• Polyurethane experience is preferred.

Skills and knowledge

• Strong technical background in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, and materials science.
• Hands-on adhesive, sealant, and coating product-development experience; strong project management background.
• Good communication in English; accurate documentation and attention to detail.
• MS Office and SAP are listed under knowledge.
