QA Engineer (Healthcare Domain)

Role summary

Testing and validation

• Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing; validate data exchange and consistency from source through AERIS to destination.
• Test HL7 messages including ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, and MDM; validate segments, fields, message structure, mandatory and optional fields, and business rules.
• Test FHIR REST APIs and resources, including Patient, Encounter, Observation, Practitioner, Organization, Condition, DiagnosticReport, Medication, and Appointment.
• Validate HL7-to-HL7, HL7-to-FHIR, FHIR-to-HL7, and API/JSON/XML transformations and mappings.
• Verify routing, filtering, transformation, acknowledgements, delivery, ACK/NACK handling, and inbound and outbound interfaces.
• Test REST GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE operations, including payloads, headers, status codes, authentication, authorization, and errors.
• Cover positive, negative, boundary, duplicate, missing-data, invalid-data, retry, queue, timeout, failure, and recovery scenarios; perform database checks where required.
• Prepare scenarios, cases, test data, and execution evidence; log, track, and retest defects; support releases and post-deployment verification.

Required experience and knowledge

• At least 4 years of software testing or QA experience.
• At least 2 years in healthcare IT or healthcare interoperability testing is preferred.
• Hands-on HL7 v2.x and/or FHIR experience is strongly preferred; strong API and integration testing experience is required.
• Strong manual testing fundamentals; experience with Postman or similar tools; understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and XML.
• Knowledge of HL7 v2.x message structure, including MSH, PID, PV1, ORC, OBR, OBX, and ACK.
• Understanding of FHIR concepts, FHIR REST APIs, common resources, and healthcare integration and interoperability.
• SQL/database validation, Jira or equivalent tools, and troubleshooting with logs, API responses, and message payloads.

Advantageous experience

• Interface engines or platforms such as Mirth Connect/NextGen Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or InterSystems; FHIR R4, validation tools, or FHIR servers.
• SMART on FHIR, OAuth 2.0, ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, CDA/C-CDA, and healthcare security, PHI, or HIPAA requirements.
• API or integration automation using Postman/Newman, REST Assured, Playwright, Python, or equivalent; API or high-volume message performance testing.
